Shahbaz Sharif is the new Prime Minister of Pakistan for the second time. After senior leaders of both the PPP and PML-N led the coalition, it got the support of 201 members in the 336-member House.
General elections were concluded in Pakistan a few days ago. But due to deadlock, no party could prove majority. After that, talks were going on between Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) to form the government. Shahbaz Sharif (72) has been announced as the Prime Minister for the second time after consensus on the alliance. Both parties have 201 members in the 336-member House. Hence, Shahbaz Sharif was unanimously elected as the Prime Minister.
Omar Ayub Khan who challenged Shahbaz Sharif could get the support of only 92 members. Omar Ayub is the leader of Imran Khan’s imprisoned Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). Shahbaz Sharif will take oath as Prime Minister at Aiwan-e-Sadar, the President’s residence on Monday.

Shahbaz Sharif previously served as Prime Minister in the coalition government between April 2022 and August 2023. Shahbaz Sharif hugged his elder brother former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif as soon as Speaker National Legislature Sardar Ayaz Sadiq announced Shahbaz Sharif’s name. Nawaz Sharif was the prime minister of Pakistan three times.
While speaking in his victory speech, Shahbaz Sharif said, My brother (Nawaz Sharif) became the prime minister of Pakistan three times. Everyone knows the development of Pakistan during that time. Even if it is said that Nawab Sharif laid the foundation of a developed Pakistan, it will not be wrong.
