PM Modi to Inaugurate India’s First Underwater Metro Rail Connecting Kolkata and Howrah. This new metro line, known as the Howrah Maidan-Esplanade section, is a pioneering project that will run beneath the River Hooghly, connecting Kolkata and Howrah.
The Howrah Maidan-Esplanade section covers a distance of 4.8 kilometers and is part of the larger East-West Metro corridor, linking Howrah Maidan to Salt Lake Sector-5, a major IT hub. One interesting fact is that the Howrah metro station, which is part of this new line, will be India’s deepest metro station.
