The revered saint of the people, Acharya Bhagwan Shri Vidyasagar Ji Maharaj, took Mahasamadhi (left the body) tonight at 2:30 am with a solemn ceremony. He took his last breath at Chandragiri Teerth in Dongargarh, Chhattisgarh. His final rites will be performed on Sunday, February 18, at 1:00 pm.
The news has brought a wave of mourning across the country. Acharyashree had been unwell for the past few days. For the last two days, he had completely given up food and water. He remained conscious until his last breath and left his body while chanting mantras. During the samadhi, he was accompanied by venerable Munishree Yogsagar Ji Maharaj, Shri Samatasagar Ji Maharaj, Shri Prasadsagar Ji Maharaj, and others.

Jain communities across the country and devotees of Acharyashree have decided to keep their institutions closed for a day in his honor. Upon receiving the news at night, thousands of his disciples have set out for Dongargarh.
Acharyashree was born on October 10, 1946, in Sadalga village of Belgaum district in Karnataka. He took monkhood from his guru, Acharyashree Gyanasagar Ji Maharaj, on June 30, 1968, in Ajmer, Rajasthan. Impressed by his rigorous penance, Acharyashree Gyanasagar Ji Maharaj entrusted him with the Acharya position. Acharyashree came to Bundelkhand around 1975. He was so influenced by the devotion and dedication of the Jain community in Bundelkhand that he spent most of his time there.
Acharyashree has given approximately 350 initiations. His disciples are propagating Jainism with devotion and dedication throughout the country.
