Authorities in Delhi and Haryana are preparing for a big protest called ‘Delhi Chalo’ by farmers from Today. Thousands of farmers from Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, and other regions are expected to join. They want the government to ensure a fair price for their crops.
To manage the protest, strict measures are being taken. Section 144 has been imposed, meaning large gatherings are not allowed. Barricades and wires are being set up at Singhu, Ghazipur, and Tikri borders in Delhi. Similar security arrangements are in place at borders with Punjab in Haryana.

Over 5,000 security personnel are deployed along the Delhi-Haryana border. Tear gas shell-dropping drone systems are being tested to maintain order. Meanwhile, talks between government ministers and farmer leaders in Chandigarh are ongoing to find a peaceful resolution.
The first meeting with the Union ministers took place on February 8, during which detailed discussions were held with leaders of farmer organizations.
Here are 10 demands put forth by the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha (KMM) and Samyukt Kisan Morcha-Non Political (SKM-NP):
- Make a law that guarantees farmers get a fair price for their crops.
- Drop all cases against farmers who protested in 2020-21.
- Give justice to the victims of the Lakhimpur Kheri incident.
- Get rid of the Electricity (Amendment) Act from 2023.
- Follow the Swaminathan Commission’s recommendation to set crop prices.
- Cancel loans for all farmers and workers in the country.
- India should leave the World Trade Organization.
- Stop lowering the tax on goods farmers need.
- Promise to raise the tax on imported goods to help Indian farmers.
- Go back to the land acquisition rules from before 2013.
