“Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw, the Bollywood film that portrays the life of Sam Manekshaw, has arrived on OTT. The film, titled ‘Sam Bahadur,’ is available for digital streaming on the platform, SonyLIV. The movie premiered on SonyLIV starting last night. Produced by R.S. Vipin under the banner of RSV Movies, Ronnie Screwvala’s RSVP Films has crafted the film. ‘Sam Bahadur’ reached theaters on December 1.
Bollywood film SAM BAHADUR arrives on OTT
Directed by Bhavani Ayyar and Shantanu Srivastava, the film explores the life of Sam Manekshaw, the first individual to attain the highest rank of Field Marshal in the Indian Army. Sam Manekshaw, born on April 3, 1914, passed away on June 27, 2008.
Having studied at Sherwood College in Nainital and later at the Indian Military Academy in Dehradun, Sam Manekshaw was a dedicated student. With a desire to pursue medical studies like his father, Hormusji Maneckshaw, and grandfather, Hill Maneckshaw, he went to London. However, due to financial constraints, he could not complete his foreign education and joined the Indian Military Academy (IMA) through the entrance examination.
The movie delves into the various stages of Sam Manekshaw’s life, from his active participation in the Burma Campaign during World War II to his role in different events, such as the Partition of India in 1947, the Indo-Pakistani War of 1962, and the 1971 Indo-Pakistani War leading to the creation of Bangladesh.

The film also sheds light on his association with Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and how they worked together during crucial times, as well as his personal relationships with figures like Fatima Sheikh and Silloo, portrayed by Sanya Malhotra and Neha Dhupia, respectively.
The music for the film, which features the battle cries of Gorkha regiments, is composed by Shankar Ehsaan Loy. ‘Sam Bahadur’ captures many significant milestones in Sam Manekshaw’s life, along with showcasing the history and growth of our great nation.
The film, filled with profound patriotism, pays a humble tribute to the great warrior and honorable personality. Renowned actors such as Javed Jaffrey, Shantanu Srivastava, and Yahya Khan join the cast, presenting a poignant cinematic experience. ‘Sam Bahadur’ is not just a biopic but also a portrayal of the undying love and pride every Indian carries for their armed forces.”
