Shivaji - India’s answer to the Statue of Liberty
The Government of the Indian state of Maharashtra has announced plans for a giant coastal statue which is to rival New York’s Statue of Liberty. It is to be constructed off the Mumbai coast, and is of none other than the great Hindu king, Shivaji (1627-1680). The statue is planned to be of about the same height as the Statue of Liberty (350 feet) and will be promoted as an important landmark and tourist location …

For thousand years we natives of sub continent have been suppressed and crushed by foreigners who only destroyed our own grand monuments and memorials. They came from countries the size of Bihar yet they defeated and ENSLAVED us. Now is the time to stand up in the world to be counted. The statue of Shivaji should be NOT seated but STANDING TALL, preferably on horse-back with sword drawn.
Please see the State Symbol of the tiny Republic of LITHUANIA and BE INSPIRED.
Their hero is someone like Shivaji and we should see him all over, on all the shields, flags, stamps, in each and every room in government buildings, and even as a bigger than life STATUE that is standing majestically next to the Cathedral in VILNIUS. By the way this Cathedral was originally a PAGAN TEMPLE that was destroyed by CATHOLIC invaders just what the MOHAMMEDAN invaders did to our own temples all over Bharat.
A statue of Shivaji has to INSPIRE us in the spirit of DEFENCE and not how timid and gutless MK Gandhi led us straight into history’s WORST EVER DEFEAT & SURRENDER of territory and incalculable loss of life and property in 1947. If we had Shivaji then the frontier of Bharat would have been at KHYBER PASS.
I hope the DEMORALISED SIKHS AND KHALSA of EAST Punjab, too, will copy Maharashtra and put up a 100 meter tall STATUE of General Hari Singh Nalwa who conquered Peshawar from the Afghans.
It is up to the HINDU leaders with pride in veins and honour in blood to raise and glorify OWN NATIVE HINDU heroes rather than this Gandhi or that Khan.

It is high time that an unique memorial for Shivaji the greatest of the Indian warriors should be erected to inspire the youth with the ideals of patriotism, valour and good administration for which there is one and only shivaji in India. The statue should have been erected long back. Better late than never.

To those who want to spend the money on welfare, think how much tourist revenue such a monument would generate and as a result jobs. People want jobs, not handouts. Jobs enable them to live with dignity and fulfil their life’s ambition. More such projects should be undertaken leading to more employment. It is called investing in our tourist industry.

India has seen thousands of heroes and heroins across thousands of years….after Shivaji there has been many despite a thousand years of foreign tyranny. In the twentieth century we have seen Swami Vivekananda,Lokmanya Tilak and Sardar Valabhbhai Patel…..shaping the destiny of the Indian.Alas! India is now saddled with the likes of Sonya Gandhi and her cronies. It is time to route out this cunning evil force.Ironically it is their presence that will see the appearance of yet another Shivaji….

Namaste
I wrote an article titled “Statue os Shivaji, Mumbai’s answer to Statue of Liberty” which was published in various newspapers and magazines.
However I append it below for the readers of Hindu Voice.
“It is surprising that the NCP-Congress alliance now ruling Maharastra who normally would like to project anti Hindu, secular agenda is now taking the mantle of BJP-Shive Sena when it comes to projecting Chatrapati Shivaji as the greatest
son of Maharastra and the leading light amongst Hindu activists.
Could they smell a Hindu vote bank in this project or is it just a money making gimmick? It is always dangerous to trust a leopard that readily changes its spots, its colour?
The State Government has just announced that it will follow into the foot-steps of New York and construct a 309 feet high statue of Shivaji, in the choppy waters of the Indian Ocean, Arabian Sea, just one mile out in the sea, off the sandy and popular beach of Marine Drive, the domain of the super rich and influential people of Maharastra.
The Statue of Liberty, a gift from the people of France to the people of AMerica, is towering the New York harbour, visible from a great distance to ships entering New York harbour, the first sight for the hungry and deprived fleeing Europeans to the new land of hope and glory in the 18th and 19th century.
The statue was the sign of liberty, prosperity and freedom for the oppressed people of Europe when most European nations were ruled by the oppressive kings or military dictators with absolute power like Nepolian.
Today the Statue of Liberty attracts millions of tourists who take a joyful boatride to escape the scorching heat and pollution of the summer months when New York becomes an over crowded, hot and steamy place people would like to escape from.
The statue of Shivaji, on a horseback, with a raised sword in one hand, 310 feet tall, will sit on a raised platform, on a man made island that will cost between Rs. 200 to 400 million, depending upon the size and the elevation of the artificial island to be created in the choppy waters of the Arabian Sea.
This artificial island in the shallow waters will be constructed with skill and precision, using the latest technology developed by the West, especially by the German engineers and entrepreneurs, to build a series of tiny islands in the shape of a Palm Tree and a World Map, off the coast of Dubai, the fastest growing economic development in the world, on per capita basis.

Bhupendra, do you also write for Rajput World?
I think your analysis is correct. This is not simply a patriotic gesture, but a political one. After all, this is India we’re talking about. When this was first announced, elections were (or are they still?) around the corner.
I support the gesture, but perhaps money should be spent bettering people’s lives. As we all know though, its much easier to become enthused about these sorts of projects than it is about feeding people, unfortunately.

This is the best thing i have ever heard that India was doing (I am young, so i havent heard many things). I know about Shivaji, and I know all about him purely because i go to shakha, nevertheless, He is one of my most inspirating models. He had what it took, and his story showed me, age is just a number, and everyone at every age can accomplish everything!!!
This monument would be a huge blessings. And America, don’t see it as a challenge to the Statue of Liberty, but as a momument of our freedom, and India’s past.
