When a driving test becomes more like a citizenship exam…
I was already nervous for my driving test; little did I know what I had in store for me from the driving examiner, who turned out to be closer to an immigration officer…

Its at times like this that tape recorders need to be carried in the car. So that we can replay it for them and suddenly pass the test very easily.

well… i really am gobsmacked! not with the driver but with you! if u knew she was being out of order y did u not say anything? especially if u knew she was gona fail u, u should have been tru to ur roots rather then gettin a drivin licence. firstly reading this i thout she may have been interigating u because u mite have had an accent but u sed u dint, so y did u not make ur british asian roots be known! i expect this from people like them but wen sum1 hurts u in a racially motivated way do not let them get away with it. u should have gone into the office of the test centre and made it known y u were so nervous and asked for the real reason u had failed… i hope uv passed now and i havnt offended u.
but for every1 out there… dont let the colour of ur skin ruin things for u… if ur angry and dont wana take it. then dont do something about it. we’ve been in this country for many many yrs and i dont think that much of their language and culture is not realy theirs originally but borrowed from different cultures thru history. these people realy need to realise this!

I don’t think she was interrogating you. Some of us have very little knowledge of the ethnic cultures in our midst, chiefly because of lack of integration, and sometimes they are literally just curious as to whether you ~do~ prefer a good curry or a burger and chips. I like a nice korma myself….but a cheeseburger doesn’t go amiss on the odd occasion.
But she was totally out of order asking these questions on your driving test - what on earth have your food preferences got to do with whether or not you can do a hill start without rolling backwards? My examiner said absolutely nothing to me beyond instructing me as to where to go and what he wanted me to do. I think your examiner was trying to make ’small talk’, which isn’t needed during such a stressful time.
I’m sorry that your experience was not a good one; hopefully by now you’ve passed your test.
You shouldn’t feel put out, demeaned or anything else; it’s the lady concerned who is socially inept and ignorant.
