Hindu woman sacked for wearing nose stud gets reinstated
In a victory for commonsense, Amrit Lalji, the lady who was sacked from her airport job for refusing to remove a nose stud that she wore as part of a Hindu marriage ritual has been reinstated (click here to see previous coverage).
Mrs Lalji wore the nose stud to her interview, and was not told that it would be any problem. It was only several months later that one of her bosses at British Airways started to make an issue about it.

If Hindus around the world remain vigilant and firmly, yet decently, oppose any such moves then the tendency to take them for granted and offend their sensibilities will surely be successfully arrested sooner than later.
Glory be to Hindus and Hinduism.

Sir, First of all, it is wrong to give everything any religious slant to prove a point.. Having said that I believe the lady in question was within her right to wear whatever went traditionally with her attire.
There are no doubt rules of hygiene for people working in the catering trade. As this lady was not involved in any catering duties, the embargo on her nose stud was flawed. We should be glad that this was a happy ending for the ;lady staff. Devinder Thakur

1] Did Mrs. Lalji seek compensation?
2] Was she awarded any?
3]If not [1], Why?
If not [2], Why?…Why?… Why?
Please, as a Hindu I am VERY ANGRY that one of our fellow Hindu’s very CORE of Hinduism has blatantly been violated by UK’s one of largest corporations. It is totally UNACCPETABLE.
Why was counsel NOT sought from senior ‘known’ Hindu organisations before insulting over one million Hindus in the UK?

Plz do not entertain such type of issues. If wearing a nose stud is against the law or a problem to health and safety…It should be removed. First of all we have to understand that we (Hindu’s) are not like other religions. And there is no common dress code or culture. According to our history we observes and absorbed each and every thing which we felt nice and fit to the idea of ‘’Vasudaiva Kudumbam’’. Only because of this idea Hindu thoughts are still greenish.

With weak minded people like Mr.Nair it’s no wonder Hindus are always trampled upon, wake up and smell the coffee, Hindus didn’t survive by giving up everything others found offensive.

I agree with Mr. Porumannana wholeheartedly! We Hindus deserve respect for our beliefs and values when they are so clearly nondetrimental to others. Too many of the older generation had a “go along to get along” attitude which amounted to capitulation to Western bigotry while pursuing materialistic and professional objectives. This has to stop now…
