“Hare Krishna Hare Rama” song controversy

Many of you will have heard a catchy song with the chant ‘Hare Krishna Hare Rama’ being aired extensively on the radio in the past few weeks. It is in fact the lead track of the recently released Indian thriller-comedy ‘Bhul Bhulaiya’, and the popularity of the song is credited with helping the film register very impressive box office figures in the first fortnight since its release.

Although well received by most, the song has ignited the wrath of a section of Hindus, who claim that the lyrics and especially the video that accompany the song are too explicit and sexual to be placed alongside the holy names of Krishna and Rama. Some Buddhists have also complained, as a statue of Buddha features prominently in the video (click here to see video and song).

    Namaste!

This song, amongst many others reflects the tendency of Muslims and Communists to abuse Hinduism without any fear.

Bhagavan will put them in their place.

How dare they do this to the Sanatan Dharm? Only because the Government of India is rabidly anti-Hindu.

The only answer lies in prayer, surrender and worship with UTTER DEVOTION, to BHAGAVAN.

Hindus should remember that ‘Dharam Rakshati Rakshitah”

DHARM PROTECTS THOSE WHO PROTECT DHARM

also the motto of our DHARM and our Lands is
    EKA HINDU PARMO DHARM

    It means two things
    1) Hinduism, the SANATAN DHAM is Param (supreme)
    2) UNITY amongst Hindus is the PARAM DHARM

May Bhagavan protec and cherish you, brothers and sisters in Hinduism

This song is almost simulated sex with the name of our gods printed on the actors’ attire. What surprises me is your neutral stance and also the complete silence of most Hindu groups who would shout from the rooftop had it been a foreign company.

It is quite common now a days, in Hindi serials, to commit most henious and wicked crimes with the chants of Durga and Shiv being played as background music. It happens every day on Zee and Star TV Sas Bahu serials. Only Hinduism and Hindu gods could be denigrated in this manner.

The nonHindus will love to see this song banned at any cost.

From the many Bollywood films I have seen there are some issues here to consider.

Are the lyrics as bad as they say they are?
I don’t understand Hindi well so someone help me out.

The video is without a doubt very explicit by Indian standards and deserves to be complained about. Its as explicit as those other videos you see on MTV or Zee or Sony Music channels.

Many good songs with great tunes have disgusting videos. It puts you off the songs completely and yet no one complains about these. We are happy to let our children watch them and even teach them the same dance movements of these songs.

Just because the lyrics of this song have the names of Gods you have all suddenly opened your eyes!!

Have you seen the little kids version of Boogie Woogie and see them dressed up in bras and pants looking like teen prostitutes gyrating their hips in sexual movements, enticing the audience with their romantic looks which the song demands!! Yet who shouts about these paedophilic parents and TV shows??

    NO ONE.

Did you attend a Diwali function and did you see on the stage Hindu youth dancing erotically emulating those fabulous tuneful songs? Did you clap and cheer and awarded them with trophies?

    OFF COURSE YOU DID.

    Namaste,
I saw this video in a curry house and I was outraged! I could not believe it! Like the whole of Bollywood, Indian Tv and film and music videos have become just filth, with Indians trying to be rappers and their “bitches”, or stupid gangster types, or pimp like. The women are dressed like whores and act like them. Indian movies/TV used to be so prude, not even allowing an exposed shoulder or a kiss, and yet look at it now!
Sadly, another proof that when Indians try to copy the West, they always go for the lowest denominator possible…and make complete fools of themselves too, because they look completely ridiculous in their over exaggerated copycat “stunts”…utterly ridiculous and…deeply harming the Hindu culture, by erroding its integrity.

  5. Dangerous Says:

While I would prefer if the video weren’t the way it was but I think its a nice song and its not really insulting so the people who are kicking up a fuss are silly.

That all and sundry can use religious icons, songs, symbols and rituals in any frolicing, entertainment, profiteering, mocking or other light hearted presentation or publicity is a sure sign that Hinduism is in wrong hands ,has lost its sheen and spiritual awe. Can you play such jokes with Islam or Christianity? No. One big reason is the advent of Hinduatva which brought religion to the streets into the hands of rabble for power politics thus stripping faith of its nobility. It became a toy of convenience and marketing.Yes Hindu society is largely a marketing society so it feels at liberty to deploy anything for selling its wares gods and godesses etc included. As Hinduism doesnt have any messiah there seem no restrain in doing so!The brahmin feels disinclined to come to its rescue ! Which is why we have RAM CHAAP TAMBAKKU,HANUMAN CHAAP ATTA, etc and no one objects! This pliability has reduced Hinduism to a mere suvivor losing fast to Christianity and Islam.Hinduism without some ethical morachy has little meaning!!Which is why its last bastian Nepal has been reduced thanks to India.Compare Thailand where buddhism will vanish at the hands of christians without the king!

  7. Dharmesh Agravat Says:

I agree that the Video itself is the ultimate problem, semi naked women and religious chanting to do not go hand in hand, but then again thats not the only thing wrong with it, what about the Actual murtis that are being used as set peices, the gyrating of the hips right next to these murtis! this shit is unbelievable!! cut off the head of who ever had this idea without delay

  8. hansa waghela Says:

Song is to attract audience to the film and adding words most hindus are familiar with is a way to draw clients ,a mear way to make profit on the film.
Director/Producer should have been stopped at the time of censoring the film by the Board.
God and making profits should be kept seperate in any kind of controvisial issues as it does more damage than its worth.

  9. Bharat Says:

Mumbai cinema industry has become counter-part of Hollywood industry, or best described as counterpart of American pornographic industry. In fact, they shamelessly love to call it Bollywood. I wish they call it Mullawood. Imitation, copying, stealing from others are the main features of Mullawood industry. A big market of ignorant people provided them an opportunity to dump whatever filths they want. They impose on people their filthy shows, and people watched them as they have no other choice.

We must simply boycott such vulger and unpolite films. Freedom of expression is not meant to destroy culture, heritage and make people behave and act like animals.

Mumbai cinema industry dumping on the nation and people a polluted and corrupted culture. Its ruining the future of childrens and youths. Childrens and youths fall into traps and imitate such vulger people as their role-model. A good number of Mumbai cinema characters are criminals, convicted criminals, murderers and gun-weilding anti-nationals. One such character now languising in jail.

Regional languages cinemas are still better. But they can’t compete with mafia and underworld run Mumbai cinema industry. We the viewers need to change attitudes and provide opportunities to regional language cinemas. We must learn something good from the westerners, they are very selective and understand standards.

  10. Navin Says:

Guys, get a life! The use of popular media is of course going for the lowest common denominator. How do you sell something that only a few elite get? As to the sexuality of dance, what’s new? As to the recitation of mantras during sex, see Shiva Sastra.

There is no question they are using the symbols to titilate. There is no question that the hippies emulated in Dum mare dum did the same thing. There is no question that children are run by sensuality and rishis abandon it. Absolutely Madonna aggravated the church and B Spears more recently. Indeed Madona helped propagate the Aum in one of her videos.

This is a dialogue. It belongs in the public eye. Your protests are a part of the dialogue. Your support of Mandirs and other settings where the austere tapasya side of hinduism is taught is good. But I am more upset at hindu actresses and actors wearing a crucifix for its fashion statement. I’ld rather see a hindu living life in all of its stages (see “Guide”) than worry if that Hindu meets my puritanical upbringing (I don’t really have such an upbriging).

  11. Suvarna Sinh Says:

Spirit had a good point…Bolly as an entire industry is trashy….

But now, whilst many amongst us have clapped - and with most clapping all the more- Bolly just takes jibes at Dharama as a whole, confident maybe that the clappers will cheer on…

  12. Genghis khan Says:

Akshay kumar should be ashamed of himself so should all secular indians.

  13. Dr:Faqir chand Says:

Most f Hindus are soft & libral.because of this it became easy to play with Hindu sentiment every where, specialy in India.I asked the Hindu Human Rights Groups HAF,Agni & others Hindus groups in side India do not sleep do to protect our cultur & heritage from more discrimination.Every Hindu can bycott such a shitt vedio .Sham to Akshe Kumar & all ani Hindu elements

  14. Amit Says:

But wht’s so wrong in this song. Well why dont we all see the other side of the coin. This song has made their way in muslim homes where they consider taking name of Rama and Krishna as Haraam. So chill out, there is nothing wrong in anything till our attitude is positive.
