Happy online Diwali to all our readers!
Diwali, as all of you are no doubt aware, is the most widely celebrated festival in the Hindu world. In any country which carries a significant number of Hindus there are massive Diwali celebrations. In many cases, non-Hindus are also drawn into the festivities, and as a result Diwali is extremely well known in most of the world.
If you ask most non-Hindus if they have heard of other Hindu festivals - for example Janmashtami, Holi or even Navratri - nine times out of ten you will draw a blank expression. But the vast majority will have heard of Diwali and know that it to be ‘Hindu festival of light’…Â

Happy Diwali!
Diwali is a time of fun and rejoicing, and should remain so. However, Hindus should not make the mistake of modern Christians who have turned Christmas into nothing more than gift-giving and celebrations, while ignoring its original significance. While Diwali is a gala time, Hindus should remember to stress the symbolism of the Divine Light which is within all, signified by the many lights without.
May all come to discover the Divine Radiance within and rejoice in THAT!

Diwali is a five day Hindu festival which occurs on the fifteenth day of Kartika. During this time, homes are thoroughly cleaned and windows are opened to welcome Laksmi, goddess of wealth. Candles and lamps are lit as a greeting to Laksmi. Gifts are exchanged and festive meals are prepared during Diwali. Diwali, being the festival of lights, thousands of lamps are lit in and outside every home on the day.
Lamp or “Deep†is the symbol of knowledge. Lighting the lamp of knowledge within us means to understand and reflect upon the significant purpose of each of the five days of festivities and to bring those thoughts in to our day to day lives.

Hi All
Happy Diwali! Let the light without shine within us too and let us share this light with the whole world. I totally agree with Swami Tarakananda, we should not treat Diwali just as a festive occasion; as we celebrate this occasion with recitation of the scriptures, song, dance and laughter, let us be mindful of this inner light which has kept our religion and culture alive despite all the forces against us.
With Love and Compassion to all.
