Caste Madness in the ‘Land of Kings’
Recently the Indian state of Rajasthan, supposedly the “Land of Kings”, was host to one of the worst bouts of “caste riots” that India has seen in recent years, leaving at least 9 dead and many more injured. Eventually the Indian armed forces had to be brought in to quell the situation. What is particularly bizarre about this incident is…

I fully agree with this article, help should be given to those who are in need, irrespective of what cast they belong to - it looks like the very thing that the government is trying to avoid is coming back to haunt them in reverse due to lack of foresight.

India is supposed to be a functioning democracy The Constitution provides equal rights to all citizens, In the early years there was a case that the most downtrodden amongst us should be given some head start for say five years so that they can catch up with the rest of the less backwards.
The politicians of our country are dishing out quota and practising a reservation system which has started a race for becoming the most backward. This should stop. There should be no quota, no Hajj subsidies, no jobs or educational reservations. India should now be the equal opportunity coiuntry. Devinder Thakur

Namaste all
To Morgan: The fact that you know your caste and mentioned it, says all. I am a devoted Hindu and as long as you or to that matter any one else are a practicing Hindu, a moderate Hindu if not a staunch Hindu, you are in the same caste as me and all Hindus like me.
Here, in London, the caste system is fast breaking down, especially among the young Hindus. But unfortunately in India, the politicians are recreating this problem to create a vote bank and personal following and unfortunately, the people are falling for it.
It seems if there is some benefit, even the once ruling class do not mind calling themselves a backward class, although God knows what they mean by it, except that they get cushy jobs and Uni admission even when they do not deserve it. They drag down the standard and create resentment.
It is for people like us to see that these mischief making politicians do not succeed. But unfortunately people of Bharat are too selfish, can not see beyond their noses.
I hope one day soon they will wake up before it is too late.

The thing baffles me is we came out of caste system to Fiji where there was no such system than we migrated to US where no such system ever was contemplated but why is Bharat still stuck with this sytem which young of now do not follow or care about. Education is our salvation we have ppl going to Space Center and doing all sorts of discovering and exploration but were at home still stuck with this ancient systen which I believe was created to differentiaite between rich and poor and what one had and what one did as a proffession. Than what category do movie actors fall under

i think we are all born human being. we are all equal citizen of this great nation of india. we say that british had a policy of divide and rule but we in india were all divided by this evil cast system which is part of hindu doctrine. i think our religous gurus tackle this subject in detail and and explain that we all are equal. india should be equal; oppertunity society.

This matter is historic. There are institutions which are run under cast (group of people known formerly because of their trade and way of living) and until these institutions become democratic and establish equality the problem will remain. All politicians who support cast systems should be outvoted. University places and jobs should depend on the caliber of the candidate and his social circumstance. The secondary schools can provide what the candidates are like. The governments should build more educational institutions. cast system should be abolished and all modern teaching materials should remove this division of the society. India will not progress with cast system.
