Hindu Police Association slams “positive discrimination” proposals
The Metropolitan Police Hindu Association have slammed plans to introduce so called “positive discrimination” into the police recruitment procedure.Under proposed positive discrimination, certain ethnic minorities would have their job applications fast-tracked compared with white candidates. The aim is to create a more inclusive police force that ethnically resembles population that it serves.

I recall there was an interesting discussion earlier in this forum regarding career options amongst Hindus in Britain. As far as I can see, the past 10 years or so has seen a dramatic branching out by young Hindus into fields other than those that might be considered traditional safe havens (doctors, lawyers, dentists, pharmacists, engineers, etc.)
There still remain some areas in which we are quite poorly represented (law enforcement, Armed Forces, media/showbusiness, professional sport, etc.) but I feel that as often outdated or inaccurate stereotypes and prejudices (which clearly work both ways) are challenged, young Hindus become more aware of the variety of opportunity available (and possible) and Hindu parents become more prepared to support (and even encourage) their children’s preferences for alternative career paths, this situation too will improve.
As for the specific issue at hand, I agree entirely with the views stated in the article and HV’s comment, that such positive discrimination would be ultimately harmful and highly undesirable.

props to the hindu police association.
it is not right that hindus should benefit from this while in our own country we criticize reservations and so on.
in an equal society, hindus should seek to succeed by using their determination and doing hard work, not through hand outs.

Entirely agree with Vig. We Indians/Hindus/Seiksh worldwide have made it with our own strengths, and our own capabilities by competing in the open market for anything which we have set our sights on, and achieved it too! East & Southern African Indians in the UK are living proof of our economic and professional success in the UK, Europe, Canada and the USA.
Indians (ie. Hindus, Seikhs, Buddhists, Christian Indians & Jewish Indians - PERIOD!) do not need positive discrimination in order for us to succeed.
This “positive discrimination” is, I believe aimed really at recruiting British Muslims of Pakistani descent living in the UK, but how can the Government say that in those words?

I agree entirely with Pravin. But this is the scary thing. Do you believe that the christo-islmic groups will help Hindus? So as positive discrimination helps the violent gain power, we are left by the wayside to be killed off. Indeed, this must be a call for Hindus to look to see who can enter the police force. I suspect that the reason Hindu kids don’t join the cops is because of culture (immigrant v Indian) but also because they are successful at finding more lucrative opportunity elsewhere. (in effect the positive discrimination has to be from the Hindu community to open up its realm of occupational participation to include the underrepresented police and military) I suspect, though, as the Hindu kids disperse into the OECD community, where opportunity depends so much on effort (setting aside the chirsto-islamic way of discrimination that has been in place for the last 2000 years), they will succeed in every field and be guiding lights to world.

Apparently, similar to their desire to join the Armed Forces (reference the article elsewhere on Hindu Voice UK), British Hindus are keen to join the police also. What is it then that stops them?
I know, I know - deciding who is and isn’t a Hindu based on their personal lifestyle choices is far more important to British Hindus than representation of Hindus in British public life, but I just thought I’d throw that out there..
