Big Brother: where it all started
As the international controversy and debate surrounding the Big Brother anti-Indian racism continues it is often forgotten that it was a person from India who actually invented and coined the concept of “Big Brother†in the first place. Eric Arthur Blair, better known by the penname George Orwell, was an Anglo-Indian author born in 1903, India. It was in his last and most famous book Nineteen Eighty-Four that he created “Big Brotherâ€. It was the book that finally made him famous but unfortunately he was to die only a year later aged only 46.

Thanks for the insight into Big Brother history
Dont have Abhiman arrogance, is a lesson Hinduism has been preaching for centuries.
Like Ravan, Jade too was given power to do what she will, but she too abused her powers and thought herself to be invincible.

It’s very ironical actually that an Indian turned the whole fiasco into an international incident when originally the idea of Big Brother came from an Indian born author years ago. Unfortunately in India the Communists that George Orwell exposed in his both novels ‘Animal Farm and 1984’ still control the education and media institutions in India and are continuously maligning Hinduism and Hindus. They go around the world disguised as great eminent academics or documentary filmmakers putting India down and blaming all its ills on Hinduism. Even this well respected historian called Romila thapar is a well known Marxist but is taken seriously among the academia around the world even though her works have been under question for a long time and been proven wrong but like a typical Indian Marxist she is she’s always ready to go round the world and get her prizes and praises. So Shilpa Shetty has got out the big brother house but is going back to Big Brother country instead.

Well Brown just happen to be in India and it was inevitable that this race issue would be raised, so Im not really suprised at how it escalted.
If you had seen every episode then you would have seen how painful it was to see Shilpa go through the torment. Perhaps she did not see the full bullying and bitching which we did.
Trust me I was very uncomfortable watching that day in and day out till finally it blew over some OXO cube.
The argument was not about the cubes but about the treatment she got.
Name calling, swearing, dirty towel given, one minute Daniel was an angel and behind her back she would more then bitch about Shilpa.
That evil dirty laugh by Jo was not a nervious laugh as she claims.
I have seen that look and laughs from Bullying first hand.
Two people left the house because of these idiots.
It was not a fiasco and I am so glad that our Indians stood up to the Big Bully. Although the burning of efigies was a bit OTT.

Very interesting article about Eric Blair’s (George Orwell’s) roots. Someone should write their phd on how a very particular experience of colonialism created a mindset familiar to all oppressed people: the exagerated empathy that an oppresed individual or group are conditioned to feel for the group that oppress them which leaves them in a psychological and emotional place where they don’t know what they feel about anything………..
I could never understand why Eric Blair (George Orwell) had such mixed feelings about everything, how I was never sure whether he was a part of the oppressed class or part of the class that oppressed. Having read your article, I now realise that his work is about the struggle for identity……..
Thanks!

Shilpa Shetty is a celebrity and the other participants in the show are nothing but white trash individuals, to be honest, it is not a shock that they (the white trash) acted in such a manner. I was expecting that when she entered the reality show in the first place! I have grown up in Australia its just like England same sort of racism.
