Review: Fanaa
Fanaa (literally meaning ‘destroyed in love’) has been one of the most highly anticipated Indian films in recent times, having a star studded cast together with a controversial story line.
The Kashmir conflict provides the backdrop for the film. The plot is based around the relationship that develops between a high profile terrorist named Rehan (Amir Khan) and an innocent blind Kashmiri girl Zooni (Kajol), while the latter is in Delhi to perform for India’s Republic Day celebrations. The unlikely couple fall in love, but Zooni thinks that he is simply a tour guide. Torn between love and his desire to ‘liberate’ Kashmir, Rehan chooses the latter. He fakes his own death just before the couple were about to marry, and leaves poor Zooni, seemingly for good.

Fanaa was nothing more than apologist crap for terrorism, like when Tabu mentions about a referendum for Kashmir, that part is nicely filmed but the retort to that is quickly skipped over and there are many other things like that. The reality is that, according to the UN a referendum was to be held when Pakistan withdrew it’s forces (if they can be called that, they were more like Hitler types who massacred Hindus and Sikhs everywhere as they advanced) from POK which it never did, that was why a referndum was never held and it should not be held because it will then throw the 35% minority population of Jammu and Kashmir to wolves.

Long years back i saw a hollywood movie (or was it an english one!) the name i think is ‘eye of the needle’. hero is donald sutherland. can’t remember heroine’s name. she the english lady or the american lady lives in a castle like home with her invalidated husband on a cliff head. one day in a storm at night a man knocks at her door desparately. she rescues him , he lives in the house, get attached to her - the husband suffers ( or the visitor kills him). one day quite accidentally she see the visitor lover sending messages to german troops! yes he is a nazi!! there erupts an altercation between them, ultimately she kills him showing true patriotism just before the arrival of allied army.
rings any bell?!

^^ Well, its hardly a surprise, the Hindi film industry would hardly win many accolades for orginality!
