AUM: The Universal Sound
This is what we hear about AUM:
The past, the present and the future are AUM,
And That beyond these three is also AUM.
(Mandukya Upanishad)
AUM is the most popular and universally recognised Hindu symbol and also the most popular word in Hindu chants and prayers.
It is the Divine Word and the originating sound of the universe. It was through meditation that the seers and sages of Vedic times arrived at the idea of a universal sound, eternally resounding in the universe, which they saw as the very origin of the created world.
There is a depth of philosophical meaning in AUM and reciting it correctly has a profound effect on the mind and body.

The Sanskrit/Hindu AUM is often used as an indicator/symbol of the Hindu religion. However, look at all the phony yoga teachers and studios that misuse this Hindu symbol. Like many Sanskrit/Hindu terms and symbols, those into the phony yoga business just “think” this is something “chic” to (ab)use.

It is also very important to point out that the AUM is synonymous with MahaDeva (not “Lord”) Ganesha. The AUM also represents the Animal, Human and Divine nature that we all possess. Ganesha’s very form reminds us of this triune nature! Jai Ganesha.
It is also worthy to note that the U.S. Government officially uses the AUM symbol to denote a fallen Hindu soldier. Again to all those “new-agers” who blatantly steal from the Hindus, they need to look more deeply into the meaning of the Hindu terms and symbols that they so carelessly misuse.
